Pet Blood Bank

Oakhill are proud to be one of the few practices in the North West to host Blood Donor sessions for dogs run by the Pet Blood Bank. One donation can help save the lives of up to 4 dogs. In order for your dog to donate blood, there are certain criteria they must meet to enable safe blood donation.

Your dog must:

  • Be aged between 1 and 8 years
  • Weigh over 25kgs
  • Be in good general health
  • Be up to date with vaccinations
  • Not to be taking certain medications (please ask us for advice if your dog is taking medications)
  • Have no history of heart murmur, seizures or fainting episodes
  • Have no history of travel abroad
  • Have not received a blood transfusion
  • Have a good temperament

On the day of the donation session your dog will receive:

  • A full physical health check by a vet
  • A full blood screen to check internal health status
  • Blood typing
  • A FREE microchip if your dog doesn’t already have one
  • A goodie bag
